Die erste "Distillery" entstand 1992 in Leipzig-Connewitz auf dem Gelände einer ehemaligen Brauerei in der Biedermannstraße, wovon auch der Name abgeleitet wurde. Nach seiner raschen Etablierung als "Geheimtipp" folgte 1995 die amtliche Schließung wegen fehlender Konzession und Sicherheitsmängel. Mittels kreativer Proteste durch Clubmacher und Gäste wurde ein Ersatzdomizil gefunden und der Fortbestand erkämpft, ab September 1995 residierte die "Distillery" nun in der Kurt-Eisner-Straße 108a in der Leipziger Südvorstadt. Zunächst für den Betrieb günstig an einer weiten Brachfläche eines ehemaligen Bahnhofs, sowie am Ende einer Sackgasse gelegen, veränderte sich danach das Umfeld zunehmend. Im Rahmen eines langfristigen und großflächigen Neubebauungsplanes wurde der Standort 2012 erneut zur Disposition gestellt, in enger Zusammenarbeit mit der Stadtverwaltung und externen Unterstützern konnte der Fortbestand des Clubs aber über die Planungsperspektive hinaus abgesichert werden. 2019 wurde die Schließung des Standortes für Ende 2022 festgelegt, die letzte Veranstaltung fand in Form einer öffentlichen Demonstration im Mai 2023 statt, im April 2024 wurde das Gebäude abgerissen. Im August 2025 konnte die dritte "Distillery" auf dem Gelände der Alten Messe als erneutes Interim eröffnet werden, bis die von der Stadt zugesprochenen Räume am [https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gleisdreieck_Leipzig Gleisdreieck] (ehemaliges "Black Triangle") fertiggestellt sind (Planjahr 2035).<br />
